• 1937 - Born in Mandiala Tega, Punjab, ‘the son of a shah’.

  • 1947 - Was a refugee during the partition of India after British Colonial rule.

  • 1960 - Lived and worked in Delhi at the Punjab National Bank.

  • 1964 - Flew to London, England to study and teach.

  • 1968 - Met Erna Knutti at square dancing night, the start of what would be a long and loving life together.

  • 1969 - Moved to Ottawa to teach at Canterbury HS.

  • 1974 - Opened Ottawa’s first health food store and café, Handa Natural Foods.

  • 1973 - Got married to Erna Knutti in Ottawa at city hall with receptions in Ottawa at MacKenzie King Estate and in Dehli at the Imperial Hotel. The start of a loving and successful 50 year marriage and partnership.

  • 1976 - Within the health food store a desk was dedicated to travel bookings. Travel nights were held for friends, teachers and clients to showcase trips and enjoy healthy snacks. This was the birth of Handa Travel.

  • 1976 - Nina was born.

  • 1978 - Tanja was born.

  • 1980 - Alex was born.

  • 2001 - Handa Travel has grown to 32 locations in Ontario and Quebec.

  • 2017 & 2018 - The birth of his granddaughters.

  • 2023 - Departed this life to re-unite with Nina in time for their birthdays.

Inderjit lived life full of energy and treated people with kindness. He was a generous person who found kindred souls everywhere he went.
